Ashton's Diary - Nov 2020 Part 1

Ashton November 2020.


Sammy Nanny: 18/11/20


Video 1 - weseca program ‘a’


Goal - o sound out the words and match the letters to the word


Outcome - Ashton was able to identify and sound out the names of each of the images with me. Ashton placed the corresponding letters underneath each of the words with some assistance at times.

Video 2,3 - tracing lines/numbers


Goal - to identify and trace numbers


Outcome - Ashton was able to identify the numbers 0 and 3 and place out the corresponding amount of people. I did some hand over hand to encourage Ashton to trace over the numbers in the sand. Ashton enjoyed feeling the sand with his hands.

Video 4,5,6- underwater ocean book


Goal - to talk about different sea animals and their habitats


Outcome - Ashton loves this ocean book, he is able to identify lots of the sea creatures, if there is an animal that hasn’t got a clear picture he makes a prediction of what animal it could be. He is able to answer questions throughout reading the book, “Are whale sharks friendly?” I asked. In response Ashton told me that we can swim with whale sharks. It’s so great to see how engaged Ashton is in this book, he even enjoys pretending the animals are real.

Video 4 - time 4 learning math


Goal - to pop 5 of the number 5 bubbles


Outcome - I didn’t hear the number the program had said to pop so Ashton began to pop numbers that he wanted to pop however once we figured out it was the number 5 Ashton was able to pop all of them independently.

Video 1 - P 2 PC Lesson 7 identification of letters


Goal - to be able to identify upper case and lower case letters


Outcome - Ashton needed some assistance with this activity, after some prompting Ashton was able to identify some of the letters.

Video 2,3 - reading our way Step 4


Goal - matching words


Outcome - Ashton was able to match all the words with only some prompting. We can move onto step 5 of reading our way

Video 4 - maths addition


Goal - to add two numbers together to make a total


Outcome - today we did addition (3+2=5)and (4+2=6). Together we placed out the corresponding amount of pebbles (3) and then (2) and then added them together to make the total of 5. We repeated this for the next sum, I helped Ashton to demonstrate what we needed to do to complete the task.

Video - time 4 learning memory match


Goal - to match our senses


Outcome - it took Ashton a few times to remember where each of the senses were today however once he made the first match he then was on a roll until he competed the task.

Ashton said, “can Anastasia come downstairs?I want Anastasia. “ He asked for Anastasia twice. He took Sharon’s hand and walked her down to the gate and asked again for Anastasia. Anastasia came down to the gate, Ashton held her hands and walked her down the hallway. “I’ve got you again now,” he said. He led her to the lounge chair and sat with her. When she went to go upstairs he walked her to the gate and said “bye bye.”

Video 1,2 - reading our way step 4


Goal - matching words


Outcome - Ashton was able to look at each word and place them onto the matching word.

Goal - to count how many words there are in each sentence


Outcome - this activity was a little tricky for Ashton to do independently so I assisted him throughout the video by holding up my fingers each time a word was said to see how many we needed in total.







Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/11/20 Video 1 - Tania's book (I like to look at...)

Goal - to engage and read along with the story.

Language and literature


Outcome - Ashton wasn't overly focused when it came to reading along with me today. He really wanted to get to the ghostbusters' page. Along the way I tried to read the sentences and point to each word. In the end Ashton ended up turning the pages, as he did this I tried to keep reading what was on each page. When we finished the book I wanted to do a second attempt, however Ashton told me he didn't want to continue.




Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/11/20 Video 2 - Pizza number recognition

Goal - to identify numbers and match the corresponding pizza slice according to the amount of dots on the slice. (number recognition and matching)

Outcome - Ashton was able to place all of the pizza slices onto their corresponding number. During this task I would hand Ashton a pizza slice and ask him to count the pepperoni dots. Ashton wouldn't begin counting until I started him off though. We repeated this until all of the pizza slices had been placed down. Next time I do this activity I would like Ashton to draw the dots or place stickers onto the pizza slices (to help with his fine motor skills as well).





Chantelle Burns Nanny : 13/11/20 Video 3 - Time 4 Learning (abc) brainy bots

Goal - to identify the correct letter when presented with four options. (letter recognition)


Outcome - Today on Time 4 Learning we did brainy bots, Ashton needed to select the correct letter out of four options when asked. Ashton was able to select the correct letter sometimes, but most of the time he took a few tries. Each time Ashton selected the incorrect letter I would tell him what it was.

Goal - to follow instructions and complete the obstacle course. (gross motor)


Outcome - Ashton didn't really want to participate today. We tried a few times to bring him back to the obstacle course, however he was running away laughing.

Emotions understanding others feelings - theory of mind.

Scarlett was sad tonight and Ashton showed concern for her. Ashton left the dinner table to find to find Scarlett to comfort her. Before I started filming Ashton said, "oh, there you are, don't be sad, be happy." Ashton had reached out and held Scarlett's hand as well.

Video 1 - Tania’s book on Ashton’s favourite characters


Goal - to read along with the story


Outcome - last week we were looking at Ashton’s favourite characters book called, “I like .....” today we’re looking at, “look at.....”. Ashton didn’t need any assistance reading, he was able to memorise the words independently.

Video 2 - cutting with scissors


Goal - to cut along the curvy lines using the correct scissors grip


Outcome - Ashton was able to cut along the curvy lines with little assistance, at times I helped adjust his scissor grip and held one side of the paper.




Sammy Nanny: 11/11/20 - time 4 learning memory match


Goal - to identify and match the letters


Outcome - Ashton recognised that he needed to find the matching letters, “where is the other y?”, “that’s not the other S” etc. Ashton did a great job at finding all the letters, only needing some help with adjusting the mouse.

Video 4,5,6 - LEGO building


Goal - to work as a team to build a triceratops


Outcome - Ashton and I worked together to make a LEGO triceratops. We swapped roles a few times throughout the activity however Ashton showed more interest in being the builder than being the engineer. He was able to follow the instructions that were given to him to build the triceratops.

Video 1 - P 2 PC Lesson 7 identification of letters


Goal - to be able to identify upper case and lower case letters


Outcome - Ashton needed some assistance with identifying the letters today, for each letter I made the sound it makes.

Outcome - Ashton was able to look at each of the words and find the matching words without any assistance.

Goal - to sound out the words and match the letters to the word


Outcome - Ashton didn’t show interest in this activity, he identified bag and sounded out the word with me however wanted to move around the letters. Ashton sang a beautiful Christmas song during the activity.

Video 2 - matching/sorting (vegetables)


Goal - to match each of the vegetable and place them into the corresponding slot


Outcome - Ashton was able to identify some of the vegetables however I helped with the names of some as he didn’t know them. He was able to match all the vegetables and placed them into the correct slots independently

Video 3 - time 4 learning (abc)


Goal - identifying lower case letters


Outcome - Ashton was able to recognise and click on the letter a, when we moved onto t the site/computer malfunctioned and it wasn’t allowing us to click anything for some reason.

Chantelle Burns Nanny : 06/11/20 Video 1 - Song completion

Goal - to fill in the gaps when singing a song with me. (verbal interaction)


Outcome - Ashton did a great job with song completion today. He was able to fill in the gaps for twinkle twinkle and daddy finger. During our singing Ashton also sang a song that he knew of, I wasn't sure what words he was singing, but he sang very sweetly. We had a good time singing together.




Chantelle Burns Nanny : 06/11/20 Video 2 - Waseca Reading Program (Blue Australian Biome Folder - Kangaroos)

Goal - to interpret (jointly with me) the pre sequenced picture cards in the kangaroos folder.


Outcome - Initially Ashton wasn't very engaged with this task, but I continued on and as I went through each picture card he became more engaged. Ashton was able to place the sentence cards down as I gave them to him and he answered questions as I asked them (for example, Ashton was able to recall that the Joey eats grass). I also showed Ashton a map so we could locate Australia and I explained how we live here and that kangaroos also live here too.







Chantelle Burns Nanny : 06/11/20 Video 3 - Star Program 2 - Receptive Language - Lesson 4 (action pictures)

Goal - to receptively identify action pictures when given the cue, "give me..."


Outcome - Ashton was able to give me each action card when I requested. At first Ashton was a little cheeky and he had messed up the cards, but once I got him on task he did a great job. It was clear that Ashton was able to receptivity identify each action card.




Chantelle Burns Nanny : 06/11/20 Video 4 - Supermarket game

Goal - to crawl on knees to gather items spread out on the floor. (gross motor)


Outcome - I set up the supermarket game and as I was about to begin Ashton said, "hey where are the girls," so I asked if he wanted them to play too and he said, "yes." We went and found the girls and brought them to our supermarket game. Ashton was able to gather up items and place them in the basket (he didn't always crawl on his knees though). When I asked Ashton what he was going to put in next he actually identified that it was Anastasia's turn. I was really impressed with Ashton. Overall Ashton had fun!

Chantelle Burns Nanny : 04/11/20 Video 1 - Reading our way - step 3

Goal - to identify and verbally say what is on the picture card.


Outcome - Ashton was able to identify all of the pictures on the cards presented to him (six cards in total). I had to ask him, "what/who is this?" and he needed to verbally tell me. Ashton was able to say - ball, car, cat, dog, Mum and Dad. We will move on to step 4.

Goal - to follow instructions to successfully build the rocket puzzle. (following instructions)


Outcome - Ashton was able to successfully build the rocket puzzle! At first I held up two pieces of the puzzle at a time, I asked Ashton which one he needed first and he was able to select the correct piece. Once Ashton had completed the puzzle I wanted him to give me the instructions to do the puzzle, however he wanted to be the builder again. This time Ashton went to be cheeky and build the puzzle incorrectly, but he soon followed my instructions and was able to make the rocket.





Chantelle Burns Nanny : 04/11/20 Video 3 - Letter 'c' play dough mats

Goal - letter recognition, to recognise the letter 'c', make the sound and discuss words that start with 'c'. (fine motor skills - to build up muscles in fingers in preparation for writing with a pencil)


Outcome - At first I asked Ashton what the letter was that I had placed in front of him, but he was unable to identify it. After asking several times I told Ashton that the letter was 'c'. We spoke about words that started with 'c' (car, cat, carrot, crab) and I got Ashton to repeat them and make the sound for 'c'. Ashton was able to do this. Next I wanted Ashton to manipulate the play dough to make the letter 'c', he needed some encouragement and assistance to do this. After that I got Ashton to use a thick whiteboard marker to trace inside and he did a great job at gripping the marker tracing. We did these steps for both the upper and lowercase 'c'.






Chantelle Burns Nanny : 04/11/20 Video 4 - Time 4 Learning - K level (science)

Goal - to circle items that we can use to describe things. For example you can use the ruler to measure or your nose to smell.


Outcome - Ashton didn't want to participate today and got upset so I ended the task. We were trying out the new K level. I also tried a few other learning areas, eg. maths and he had the same reaction (not filmed).





Chantelle Burns Nanny : 04/11/20 Video 5 - Pink Oatmeal (Ocean week) Ocean Yoga - to increase overall flexibility and muscle strength.

Goal - to identify each picture eg. “Which one is the cat?”


Outcome - Ashton was able to identify all the pictures without any assistance.

Video 2 - finger numerals


Goal - to show numbers using fingers


Outcome - Ashton was able to use his fingers to create numbers on each of his hands by counting, we will continue to work on identifying the numbers.





Speech therapy

We changed the routine today as Anastasia was coming first for a bit of speech so I took her first and got Kevin to bring Ashton after Anastasia.

This did not go down well as Ashton thought he was going out with Kevin and he ended up at therapy!! ( Kevin normally takes Ashton out to the animal park or beach so going to therapy was not in Ashton’s group plan)

Video 1 - word recognition


Goal - to match the words of the sea animals


Outcome - Ashton was able to match all the words to the corresponding animals. At times Ashton would place a word under the incorrect word so I would ask Ashton if the words match, he would then look at the words again and place it under the matching word.

Goal - cause and effect


Outcome - Ashton and I poured milk into a plate, we then added drops of food colouring. Before we added in the detergent I asked Ashton what he think would happen once we added the detergent, “it’ll turn to slime,” he said. He enjoyed watching the colours shift and move in the milk.

Video 3,4,5 - making slime


Goal - to make slime following instructions


Outcome - together we made slime our best slime yet! Ashton was able to follow the instructions that I gave him independently, he had a great time making the slime however doesn’t like to get too messy when we mix it.
